Weight Matters

Do you eat when you are not hungry?

Do you eat when you feel....

Bored...unhappy....happy....stressful....

anxious....relaxed....angry....self conscious....

guilty....lonely....overtired....fearful

Are you addicted to certain types of food such as?

Chocolate....desserts....sweets....biscuits....

high fat foods....junk foods

If so then you are more than likely to be an emotional eater, someone who uses food to deal with an emotional feeling that you are having difficulty coping with. I can help you understand and overcome the underlying emotions that drive you to overeat and eat the wrong type of foods.

Struggling to lose weight?

Losing weight and keeping it off is one of the main challenges now facing many people of all ages.

Habitual eating of either the wrong type of foods or overeating causes weight gain. Why you do either or both of these things may be attributable to a number of reasons.

Why do I overeat?

Whatever your reasons are, it is the effects of weight gain that are of critical importance.

The negative effects of weight gain are endless but typically weigh gain results in:

measuring heart tape

  • low self confidence
  • contribution to illnesses e.g.
    • high blood pressure
    • diabetes
    • skin conditions
    • liver problems
    • poor digestion
    • heart disease etc...
  • back and joint pain

How does this affect you?

Well apart from adverse health issues, being overweight can also affect other areas and people in your life; your family, relationships, sexual activity, career opportunities, income and hobbies.

For many of you being overweight probably limits your life in some way or another. Even if you have tried before and failed, all that means is that you now know what does not work for you.

Why do you overeat and gain weight?

Assuming there is no overriding medical reason, quite simply, you eat more calories per day than your body needs to function.

What makes you eat more than you need?

There are many reasons why you may be eating more than you need. Without knowing you personally, lets speculate on some of the reasons why you might overeat and have difficulty losing weight and keeping it off.

  • Lack of knowledge about the nutritional values of food and portion control
  • Passing the responsibility of your food planning and intake to someone else
  • Eating quickly, not taking the time to taste and chew food properly
  • Emotional eating: fulfilling an emotional need or expressing an emotion
  • Failing to deal with underlying emotional issues - resulting in a cycle of emotional eating and self sabotaging your efforts. Lose some weight and put it back on! This vicious cycle can go on for years.
  • Lack of organisation with menu planning
  • Dieting
  • Fad and crash diets
  • Unconscious eating habits
  • Heavy social schedule
  • Excessive TV dinners and "snacking"
  • Tempting food displays
  • Advertising - subliminal messages to the unconscious mind
  • Depression
  • Stress
  • Lack of control in your life (faulty belief)

How can you change your relationship with food?
